A pub chain and armed forces charity are encouraging pubgoers to take glasses home with them.

Marston's and The Royal British Legion have teamed up for the initiative as part of the 2024 Poppy Appeal, where 1,000 pubs across the UK, including 292 in the West Midlands, will serve drinks in limited-edition commemorative glasses.

The poppy-themed glasses are part of a fundraising effort to support veterans.

From Saturday (October 26) Marston's pubs across the UK will sell these pint and half-pint glasses for £2.50 and £2 respectively, with all profits going to the charity.

The glasses can be bought either empty or filled with a drink to be enjoyed in the pub before taking them home.

The sale of the glasses is part of Marston's month to remember, which will see pubs organising a variety of awareness and fundraising events, including community breakfasts and live music events.

Traditional pin-on poppies will also be available for purchase.

The chain has 292 pubs across the West Midlands, and 26 in Worcester alone.

These include the Horn & Trumpet in Worcester, the Red Lion in Malvern and and the Norton Grange near Evesham.

The Royal British Legion, the UK's largest armed forces charity, has been supporting veterans and their families since 1921.

The annual Poppy Appeal raises funds for the charity's initiatives, with 2023 seeing a 35 per cent increase in households requesting assistance.

This led to the charity supporting 27,000 people and awarding more than £18 million in grants to those in need.

Jared Sedgwick, director of operations at Marston’s, said: "Brits have been known to take glasses home with them from the pub, but this time we’re encouraging it.

"We’re so proud to be working in partnership with The Royal British Legion to give our customers another way to raise awareness and crucial funds for veterans, who are such a large part of the Marston’s community.

"We want to welcome everyone to their local pub for what will be a month to remember, and join us in saying cheers to our heroes."

Ben France, head of corporate partnerships at the charity, said: "We're thrilled to be partnering with Marston's to support the Poppy Appeal this year and beyond.

"The fundraising taking place across their network of pubs will help transform the lives of those in need across our armed forces community."
