A SWAN has been found shot in a town river.
The swan, a juvenile, was brought to the Vale Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre after being found in Evesham but died from its injuries.
In a post on Facebook from the hospital, a spokesperson said: "Today (October 16) marks the loss of another beautiful mute Swan after being found shot in Evesham.
"This juvenile swan was brought to us yesterday after being found on the river with obvious signs of injury.
"After initial treatment and fluid therapy, we prepared the swan for x-rays today which showed multiple pellets still lodged inside the swan in the head, neck and left leg.
"Unfortunately, on coming round from the anaesthetic, he started to aspirate and we had to make the difficult decision to end suffering by putting to sleep."
"In wildlife rescue we see lots of injuries caused by humans, thankfully the majority are accidental, but when we see intentional injuries to helpless, innocent wildlife, it makes you feel like you're really fighting a losing battle."
