A MOTORWAY services in Worcestershire could get a new McDonald’s drive thru.

Plans have been put forward to add a drive-thru lane to the services at Strensham on the southbound M5, near junction 8.

A McDonald’s restaurant already forms part of the Roadchef services at Strensham southbound.

The new proposal, if approved by Wychavon District Council, would see a new drive thru built at the side of the existing building.

A small extension to the fast food restaurant itself would be required, which would include a corridor and till for taking payments.

“Two new drive thru windows are also proposed on the southern elevation of the amenity building and will introduce side-by-side ordering,” plans state.

“Importantly, the operation will be strictly controlled and allow cars to order meals, and then approach the collection point and obtain the correct order.

“The existing car park will also be reconfigured to facilitate the development. This includes a reduction in coach parking and relocated car parking.”

Roadchef says that after consulting with National Highways, it plans to provide bigger parking spaces and six new electric charging spaces.

It also says it will introduce a one-way system on a new car park proposed as part of the drive thru plans.

Strensham Parish Council said it “does not see any reason to object to these changes per se”.

But it added: “The new facility will increase the amount of carry out products and have the potential to increase the amount of, and spread of litter.

“This is already a matter of concern for the parish. Can assurance be sought from McDonald’s that they will do all they can to commit to minimise the impact of litter upon the services environment and the wider local environment?”

The council made a number of suggestions including for signs to be put up encouraging customers to take litter home, the use of biodegradable packaging and “vehicle registration capture on packaging” to deter littering.
