EVESHAM's MOP Fair brought colour, light and entertainment to the town centre.

The annual three-day event brought thousands of people onto the streets and a wave of energy to the town to the delight of businesses across Evesham.

Concerns over the weather may have put off a few people according to the organiser but he said overall the event ran smoothly.

Edward Danter, organiser of the Evesham MOP Fair, said: "The fair went very well.

"The mayor was all robed and opened the fair on Thursday (October 3) and I think they all enjoyed the event.

"We had a decent crowd on Thursday.

"Friday (October 4) was a bit down but I think some people stayed at home because of the weather forecast, and we also had good numbers on Saturday.

"We were lucky with the weather.

"When the fair was on the weather kept fine, the storms seemed to go through the night and stop when the fair was on.

"Everybody was able to keep dry and we had a decent turnout.

"I have had no complaints so far, I talked with police on the Saturday (October 5) and they had no issue.

"I think everyone enjoyed it and all the businesses I talked to said that it was something they look forward to because it brings in trade to the town centre.

The MOP fair closed Evesham's High Street and Merstow Green Car Park for three days from October 3 to October 5.

The event usually brings over 10,000 people to the town centre over the three days.

Robert Raphael, mayor of Evesham, said: "Everyone had a good time.

"It was a wonderful night and it was an honour and a privilege.

"It brings a lot of colour, light and entertainment to the town and it is a tradition.

"It was absolutely packed and heaving on Friday (October 4), all the pubs and clubs were bustling.

"There was very little negativity apart from a few shops who didn't like their fronts blocked, however, it's only for a few days each year.

"Oddly enough traffic management went quite well and it flowed nicely."
