The awards recognise “the very best in British hospitality, honouring achievements across 16 award categories.”

Chefs can also strive for the AA Chefs’ Chef of the Year award, sponsored by Wellocks.

Lygon Arms Hotel in Broadway received four Red Stars at this year’s AA Hospitality Awards and is described as offering comfort and “high standard” bedrooms.

What did the AA Awards say about Broadway’s Lygon Arms Hotel?

The AA inspector said: “Located in the heart of Broadway, this historic property has been welcoming guests for over 600 years. Completely and sympathetically refurbished, the Lygon Arms now offers an array of deeply comfortable lounges and small intimate snugs – many with open fires.

“The large inviting courtyard is an ideal setting for summer dining. Bedrooms vary in size and shape with those in the main house boasting rich period detail – all are thoughtfully equipped to a high standard.

“The Lygon Bar and Grill by James Martin, complete with barrelled ceiling, is not to be missed and the dishes celebrate the best of local and seasonal ingredients. Alternatively the Tavern offers more casual dining and afternoon teas in the Russel room are a real treat.”

The hotel was one of five hotels in the UK to receive the new accolade of four Red Stars and it has impressed its visitors on Tripadvisor.

Over on the review site, Lygon Arms Hotel has earned a 4-star rating from 1,922 reviews.

One guest said: “When you imagine what a quintessential historic inn in the Cotswolds might be like, look no further! We thought the Lygon Arms was just magical. The main level has areas that date back to the 1300s and is just a rabbit warren of little rooms with lovely seating areas and fireplaces galore.

“The dining room is especially beautiful and there are also beautiful gardens out back. We loved staying in Broadway and felt that it was centrally located and had a great selection of shopping and places to eat.

“We stayed in the main building because we wanted a more historic experience, and the room reflected that. If you want something more updated, I might suggest staying in the annex in back, it looked quite lovely.”

Another shared their experience, saying: “This is our fave spot -- hands down! We first came here two years ago for a 3 day stay and knew it wasn't half long enough, so back we came for a full week. Best idea we've had for awhile -- absolutely relaxed and enjoyed all The Cotswolds have to offer.

“The staff is unparalleled, service impeccable, food and drink absolutely yummy (HAVE the Rosemary Lemon Martini -- sounds crazy but a treat for all your senses!). The rooms were cleaned to spotless daily (Thank you, Louise!) and all the common rooms are both cozy and immaculate.
