The Moreton Show has been declared one of the best ever.

The show,  one of the biggest farming shows in the country welcomed thousands of visitors to the town last weekend.

The show, which is held on the first Saturday in September every year highlights the farming industry in the area and beyond.

Some of the highlights for the organisers included the Over 40's Sheep Sheering competition and the Livestock Grand Parade.

Stuart Mace, Moreton in Marsh Agricultural and Horse Show Society chairman said: “The show was a fantastic spectacle.

"I felt so proud to be society chairman as I walked around the show with the society president, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, and saw so many people enjoying themselves – it made all the hard work completely worth it.

"The Horse Area, the cattle and sheep lines, and the sheep shearing would have to be my favourite parts of the show.

"I particularly enjoyed the new ‘Over 40’s’ shearing competition, it created a great atmosphere in the Shearing Marquee.

"Thank you to all involved with getting the show organised, we would not be able to do the show without the help of our amazing volunteers and organisers.

"Moreton Show is a true rural event, and I am so proud to have been society chairman for the past two years.

"I now hand the baton over to Mr Steve Parkes, who I know will do a sterling job – good luck Steve."

The Grand Parade of Livestock took place in The Grand Arena and showcased the very best of cattle, sheep and goats with stockmen and women travelling from all over the UK.

Steve Parkes, vice-chairman of the society, said: “The atmosphere at the show was amazing this year.

"I would like to thank everyone who attended and supported us, I hope you all thoroughly enjoyed the show.

"I would also like to thank all the staff and volunteers who help to organise and build the show.

"Holding an event this big is an enormous task and would not be possible without all the fantastic people behind the scenes.

"The highlight of my day was the Livestock Grand Parade, in all my years showing cattle and sheep, I have never seen a parade of livestock as well supported as the one at Moreton Show on Saturday was."

Next year's Moreton Show will take place on September 6 2025.

Esther Watts, the show's general secretary, said: "We have been inundated with positive feedback about Moreton Show 2024, the show was a resounding success.

"Many people approached me on show day to tell me how much they had enjoyed their day, particularly the Sheep Shearing competition and the variety of trade stands.

"The attractions area proved extremely popular, and children really enjoyed meeting the animals in the Attwell Farm Park mini farm, as well as the Vintage Tractor Parade and The Magical Musical Bike.

"We were kindly allocated over 30 Horse of the Year qualifiers this year which meant the Horse Area was busy all day, and we saw an extremely high standard of competition.

"We hope to see you all again next year.”
