A train was boarded by 'Queen Victoria' as part of the month-long Pershore Plum Festival.

The 'monarch and her entourage' boarded the Pershore Plum express from Broadway to Cheltenham on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR).

The event is set to conclude in the town next weekend (August 24-25).

Historically, the railway line, now run by volunteers, transported tons of Vale of Evesham vegetables and fruits, including plums, to markets across the UK.

The Pershore Plum was first cultivated in 1827 after being discovered growing in the wild.

This fruit had such historical significance that the National Farmers’ Union in 1927 enlisted the then Great Western Railway to name a locomotive 'Pershore Plum' to commemorate the plum's centenary.

Sadly, that locomotive, a 'Bulldog' class no. 3353 from the Worcester depot, was scrapped in 1947.

However, todays' train, locomotive 2807, was built in 1905, making it the oldest working Great Western Railway steam locomotive and a contemporary of the original 'Pershore Plum' locomotive.
