AN EVESHAM charity has been granted £300,000 to help build a new community hub to "support the growing needs of the community."
The new community hub will be built by Evesham Adventure Playground and the old hub will be repurposed into a home for a bike recycling project and a community pantry.
The money has been awarded by Wychavon District Council as part of the final round of Wychavon's Community Legacy Grants scheme, which saw another £700,000 awarded to five other projects.
The new community hub will include two halls for hire, consultation rooms, a sensory space and a kitchen with toilets.
Dave Boucker, manager at Evesham Adventure Playground said "Footfall has been rising for quite some time now and the building was not built for so many.
"The space we have is now a limiting factor for the needs of the community.
"We hope the new hub will alleviate the issue, whilst also being more sustainable for the future.
"The hub will not only help to support the growing needs of the people of Evesham, but also help to sustain our programme of work with children, families and young people for the future.
"We have always been more than ‘just a place to play’."
Evesham Adventure Playground is currently looking through the final designs for the new community hub and is yet to send in planning permission to the district council.
Jenny Wormal, chair of Evesham Adventure Playground said: "It's great news for us, this will unlock potential other sources of funding so we can move forward on our build."
Other projects that will benefit from the final round of Wychavon's Community Legacy Grant scheme include Pinvin Memorial Hall who received £134,000, Droitwich Heritage Centre who received £130,000 and Hanbury Parish Council who received £145,000 to upgrade the recreation ground.
Councillor Rob Adams, executive board member for strong communities, culture and sport on Wychavon District Council, said: “I’m incredibly proud of everything we have achieved through the Community Legacy Grants scheme.
"By working with our communities, we’ve invested where needed to make a real and lasting difference to our residents.
"These latest projects are fantastic examples of that.”
