The headteacher of a leading school in Evesham has encouraged others to get involved in the profession.

Dr Tony Evans, the headmaster at the Ofsted 'Outstanding' rated Prince Henry’s High School, has highlighted the satisfaction of the profession and the opportunity to continually learn and progress.

He said: "As a teacher, it is indeed a privilege to guide and shape future young lives.

"Come and join the profession".

He describes the job as highly rewarding, despite the work being challenging.

"Teaching is an amazing job.

"Having the chance to work with young people in a subject you are passionate about is just so rewarding.

"It is hard work, but it is full of personal and professional fulfilment and there are so many benefits."

These comments came as the Government recently launched a campaign to recruit 6,500 additional teachers and announced an increase in teacher pay.

Dr Evans welcomed the news, saying: "It’s positive what we are hearing from the Government.

"We need more people coming into the profession.

"And in my experience once most people do, they find they really enjoy it.

"It becomes a vocation, a way of life.

"There are endless opportunities to keep on learning and to progress as a professional both inside and outside of the classroom".

An alumnus of the University of Worcester, Dr Evans praised the institution’s teaching program, which received its 'Outstanding' rating in May 2023.

Dr Evans climbed the ranks in various schools before becoming the headteacher of the school in 2012.

He added: "I would encourage anyone considering a career in teaching to talk to professionals involved in education and look out for open events where you can find out more about the courses available and the routes into teaching.

"It really is one of the most rewarding jobs."

The University of Worcester recently added 100 more places for teacher training in response to the education secretary’s announcement to boost recruitment.

Additional spaces are available in most subjects for its PGCE and undergraduate programs with bursaries of up to £28,000 for some subjects.
