AN ELECTRIC vehicle charging company has bought land at Twyford Services near Evesham where it plans to build 16 "ultra-rapid chargers".
Osprey Charging, completed the purchase of the land on July 15, and has been given permission to build the EV chargers on the two-acre plot.
The company said that customers using other facilities at the services such as Costa Coffee, KFC and Premier Inn will be able to use the chargers.
Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging, said: "Here at Osprey, we are continuing to ramp up our fast-paced roll-out of public EV chargers, and the acquisition of this two-acre site at Twyford Services is another great step forward for our network, and for the UK’s EV drivers.
"Purchasing freehold sites is an important strategy for us, offering greater flexibility and control over the design of the charging hub, ultimately making it more user-friendly for our customers.
“With planning permission secured for 16 chargers to be installed at the hub, this acquisition will provide EV drivers with a high-quality and reliable charging solution in a key location on the UK’s road network.
"The 16 chargers at Twyford Services will be another successful example of our hub strategy, with 10 high-powered hubs already delivered this year alone, keeping us on track to hit our target of installing 30 hubs by year’s end.”
The A46 links Cheltenham, Evesham and Coventry.
John Clatworthy, deputy mayor at Evesham Town Council, said: "I think this has to be good for Evesham.
"I think some people will argue that electric cars are incredibly expensive and how many people will want to buy them?
"Those people that do have electric cars do need somewhere to charge them.
"They will be put in place on private land, but they can only really benefit the area.
"They are slightly out of town and so I don't know how many residents would travel to charge their vehicles, however they will certainly benefit commuters."
Twyford Services will be an "attractive spot" according to Osprey, with Costa, KFC, Premier Inn, Beefeater and a Texaco Petrol Station providing a range of options.
