A CAR was driven into a river near Evesham.

The incident happened in Offenham near the Fish and Anchor pub on Sunday (July 14). 

Police, fire and ambulance services all attended the scene. 

Two fire crews along with the water first responders, boat crews and the incident support unit and drone were called.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Pebworth and Bromsgrove Fire Stations plus the water first responders from Bromsgrove, boat crews from Evesham and Worcester and the incident support unit and drone from Ledbury were called to a vehicle in water in Offenham at 12.19pm on July 14.

"A car was in the river and the driver had self-extricated before the arrival of the fire service.

"The vehicle was made safe and the surrounding area was checked over by the swiftwater rescue team.

"The driver of the vehicle was handed over to the ambulance service before being passed to the care of the police."

One ambulance attended the scene and found a man out of the water, but he declined assessment. 

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.16pm to reports of a vehicle in water in Offenham, Evesham.

"One ambulance attended the scene and found one man who was out of the water on arrival.

"He declined assessment and was left in the care of police on scene."

A woman, the driver of the vehicle was arrested. 

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We were called to a single-vehicle collision near the Fish & Anchor pub in Offenham shortly before 12.30pm on Sunday July 14. 

"A 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and later released without charge."
