Students at Evesham New College have collaborated on a special project.

The project involved hairdressing and photography students at the college working together to prepare for industry roles.

The aim was to create and capture a variety of prom-themed looks for their final assessments.

The Level 2 Hairdressing students styled their models with looks that displayed their technical skills.

Their inspiration came from fairy tales, films, and various eras of fashion.

In contrast, the Year 1 Level 3 Digital Graphics and Photography students were tasked with finding the perfect settings for taking creative images of these finished looks.

This endeavour built on the skills they'd learned in a recent portrait photography module.

Photography students carefully selected locations, ensuring the lighting and focus were right to set the mood and effectively capture the intricate details of the hairstyles.

The resulting photographs will soon grace the college walls, showcasing the talents of the students, and advertising the courses.

Danielle Williams, the hairdressing course manager at Evesham New College, led the initiative.

She emphasised that this project was instrumental in readying the students for the industry.

Ms Williams said: "The collaborative project went very well and was enjoyed by all of the students who took part.

“The hairdressing students could go on to do everything from wedding hair to working in events, theatre, film or TV, so they need to know their hairstyles photograph well, and the photography students need to ensure they are producing strong imagery which meets a particular brief.

“We are already thinking about further collaborations when the hairdressing students move on to Level 3, including a potential catwalk show including collaborations with other departments such as beauty, which is very exciting.”

Lucy Bergonzi, the Digital Graphics and Photography tutor, said: "Working with the hairdressing students was a great opportunity for the photography students to take part in a live commission.

"The photography students rose to the challenge and they worked very professionally, producing some excellent photographs which they can be proud of."
