Voters have been reminded to check they have the right ID ready for polling stations ahead of the General Election.

Due to a recent law alteration, voters are now required to produce an accepted form of photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence, to vote.

Wychavon residents are being urged to confirm they have the correct ID in time to vote.

Those without a suitable ID can obtain a free Voter Authority Certificate through the Wychavon website.

They have been asked to act quickly as the deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday (June 26).

Despite two per cent of Wychavon residents – 1,560 people – not holding a valid photo ID, only 50 applications have been received since the election was announced.

Vic Allison, acting returning officer for the Droitwich and Evesham Parliamentary Constituency, said: "Taking just five minutes to check you have the right photo ID could be the difference between having your say in the upcoming General Election or losing your voice.

"Anyone who needs a Voter Authority Certificate should be aware of the deadline and apply as soon as possible."
