SOMETIMES it can feel easier to ditch the car and ride a unicycle to work than to deal with the stress of learning how to drive.

Driving is a skill that can take most people over a year to learn and that is not including the multiple tests to secure the piece of paper that allows you to legally drive.

It can feel like an uphill battle to pass both your theory and practical driving test.

But, what if it could be made easier based on which test centre you go to?

A new report from a learner driver insurance company, Dayinsure, has revealed the best and worst places to take a practical driving test in 2024.

The research used the latest DVSA data to explore which areas have the highest and lowest test centre pass rates across the UK.

It compares the pass rates from April 2023 to March 2024 to get the average percentage pass rates for practical tests.

The data found that the best place in Worcestershire to take your practical driving test would be Worcester.

The centre on Stanier Road in Warndon has a 50.2 per cent pass rate after passing 3,663 drivers out of the 7,292 it tested in the same period.

DVSA Practical Driving Test Centre in Redditch had a pass rate of 45.9 per cent which is only slightly lower than Worcester's figures.

The centre on Elm Road has passed 2,042 new drivers after testing 4,445 in the same year.

Across the UK, the test centre with the highest pass rate is Arbroath in Scotland which had passed 73.1 per cent of its learner drivers.

What are the most common driving test faults which lead to failure?

According to Dayinsure, the most common fault made by those taking their tests is losing control of the vehicle while forward parking.

Insufficient observation while at a junction and failing to use mirrors when changing direction also scored high among those who failed.

Nicholas Shaw, director of operations at Dayinsure, said: “It is clear to see that driving test pass rates fluctuate up and down the country, and learners in some areas may also struggle to find an instructor in time to start their driving lessons on time."
