Droitwich and Evesham general election candidates have reacted to the news of a new general election in less than two months.

The public will take to the polls on July 4 to decide who will represent them in parliament.

Mid Worcestershire's current MP is Nigel Huddleston and he is hoping to be re-elected for the new Droitwich and Evesham constituency.

Mr Huddleston said: "It has been a difficult few years for my constituents, the country, and the world as we recover from the pandemic and the global economic impacts of the invasion of Ukraine.

"But the economy is growing again, inflation is falling, real wages are rising - and we have been able to start cutting taxes again.

"The strength and resilience of our economy means we can invest record amounts in our vital public services.

"We must not put all this at risk.

"It has been an honour and a privilege to serve you over the last nine years and I hope to continue doing so in the next parliament.

"This will be a pivotal election and a hard fought campaign.

"I take nothing for granted.

"So over the next few weeks you will see me out and about campaigning as I respectfully ask you to put your trust in me again with your vote on July 4."

Sam Bastow representing Reform UK said: "It is about time that a general election was called.

"For far too long there has been no difference between the Conservative and Labour Party which has been to the detriment of the electorate.

"The UK is on a tipping point and Reform UK can be the catalyst for change with common sense policies such as: scrapping net zero, increasing the income tax threshold to £20,000 per year and stopping the small boat crossings."

Oliver Walker representing the Liberal Democrats, said: "I am excited about the opportunity to help bring about change and challenge the current Conservative MP who has taken people for granted for too long.

"I'd also like to remind those without photo ID, busy shift workers and students who will be moving back home in July, that you can apply for a postal vote online."

Andrew Flaxman from the Social Democratic Party was approached for comment.

Neil Green from the Green Party and Chipiliro Kalebe-Nyamongo from the Labour Party have also been approached.
