RESIDENTS have complained after internet companies have caused repeated disruption on the streets of Pershore.
Four internet companies, Full Fibre, Virgin Media, Airband and AllPoints Fibre have all descended on the town to install fibre optic cables.
In some areas of the town, multiple companies have installed their own infrastructure leading to repeated disruption.
Kenneth MacDonald who lives on Sheldon Close, said: "A couple of weeks ago Airband dug up a trench around 300cm wide and said they were putting in fibre cables.
"Now Virgin Media are doing the exact same thing, it's happening all over Pershore, it's absolutely bonkers.
"I for one don't even want it.
"There is no pavement left, it's a small close and we have two fairly large cars and they have to move the barriers for us to get in and out.
"Rather than struggle to get into the close, I now just park in the middle of Pershore and walk back home."
Pershore town councillor, Dan Boatright-Greene has invited all four companies to a meeting to discuss their plans and to try and get them to work together.
Mr Boatright-Greene said: “Of course we welcome an upgrade to our broadband network, but we also want to be able to get in and out of our homes without tripping over holes in the ground.
"The standard of the work has been inconsistent and it is costing the council time and money chasing companies to put the work right.
"At the same time, we have pavements that have been dug into multiple times, which will lead to water getting into the cracks and the surface degrading faster.”
“Given the amount of disruption in some areas it seems only fair that the companies chip in together and fully resurface the pavements they have put channels into.
"I’m also calling on them to work together to put one channel in each pavement and plan their work to minimise the impact on residents."
Mr Boatright-Greene is a candidate for West Worcestershire in the upcoming general election.
A Virgin Media spokesperson: “We always aim to minimise disruption for residents when expanding our network.
"The works we are delivering on Sheldon Close will increase consumer choice in Pershore and bring ultrafast and reliable broadband to more homes in the area.”
