A MAN has been saved from a flat in the heart of Evesham after a suspected arson fire.
Three Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews attended the blaze late on Tuesday evening and stayed until the early hours.
Six firefighters rescued the man from a ground floor flat in Cowl Street.
The same man was later arrested by West Mercia Police on suspicion of criminal damage and on suspicion of arson endangering life.
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said: "Three crews - two from Evesham and one from Broadway - were called at 10.02pm to a house fire with persons reported in Cowl Street.
"There was a fire in a ground-floor flat which was fought by six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using two hosereel jets.
"A man was rescued from the flat and all persons were accounted for.
"Police and ambulance also attended."
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Officers attended a property fire yesterday evening on Cowl Street in Evesham following a call received around 10.20pm.
"One man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and on suspicion of arson endangering life."
