New pictures show Evesham's Riverside Shopping Centre mess

BIRD muck, leaves and liquid residue have been pictured in an Evesham shopping centre with complaints piling up against the state of the area. 

A town councillor says Riverside Shopping Centre needs cleaning urgently as redevelopment plans are yet to come to fruition. 

And shop owners say customers are looking to shop elsewhere because of the state of the centre.

Pictures show bird excrement, fallen leaves and liquid stains on the floor of the shopping centre.

Mark Goodge, an Evesham town councillor said: "Something needs to be done, the owners need to get a move on, there's no other solution. 

"We have had lots of complaints from the public in town council meetings. 

"Its not being cleaned and the roof is leaking. 

"Nobody really cares at the moment and it needs to be taken on by someone who does care. 

"Five years ago the plans looked good but then covid happened and everything stopped. 

"We need to see something happen again, the sooner the better."

The centre currently contains over 40 rental units, however only nine shops or stores are currently listed on its website. 

Javid Akram, manager of Evesham Mobiles said: "The centre is going to shut down and at the moment there are no cleaners. 

"We have to clean the front of our shop ourselves to make the store look more presentable. 

"The state of the centre does have an impact on customers choosing to shop elsewhere."

Robbin Walker, facilitator at Welcome To Our Future said: "We are very happy to be in the Riverside Shopping Centre and to be able to allow people to read more books. 

"In the last three years we have had over 12,000 visitors and we are a useful service for the community. 

"Most people want us and Home Bargains to stay. 

"We would love it to be in a better state, but we would rather have it in the state that it is in then to not have it at all."

Earlier this year, Wychavon District Council had a bid for £19 million from the government’s ‘levelling up’ fund to complement a proposed £100m revamp of the town’s Riverside Shopping Centre rejected.

Ian Edwards, director of economy and environment for Wychavon District Council, said: “We continue to work with the owners of the Riverside Shopping Centre to secure a viable future for the site that will support the transformation of Evesham Town Centre in-line with the vision in the Evesham Investment Prospectus."

Corbally Group, which manages the centre, declined to comment.
