A Worcestershire bowls club founded almost 100 years ago is to get new changing rooms.
Pershore Bowls Club will move its changing rooms into a new cabin as it gets started on plans to modernise its facilities.
Use of the cabin will allow the club to house wheelchair-accessible changing rooms, toilets and showers in its clubhouse, as well as space for indoor winter carpet bowls.
Last week, Wychavon District Council gave planning permission for the changing room cabin to be installed.
Historic England and Wychavon’s own conservation officer raised concerns over the plans as the site is among the most sensitive heritage locations in Pershore.
But planners felt the 2.5 metre-heigh timber building was acceptable as it wouldn’t require any intrusive groundworks and would be screened by a boundary hedge.
The bowls club, which was formed in 1928 and is based in the abbey grounds, says it is “looking forward to the future to ensure the long-term use of the site and to update the facilities to more modern standards with regard to inclusivity and wheelchair access.”
