The owner of a former cookie shop has made the "next logical step" and opened a bakery café
My Cookie Club in Blackminster has been rebranded into Newtons Bakery Café and has now opened after the business moved to a unit that became available on the business park.
The café opened on April 8 and so far has been very successful according to owner, Richard Newton.
Mr Newton said: "We had been in the courtyard for three years with My Cookie Club and it was great.
"However after a unit became available we decided to expand more as it is the next logical step in expanding the business.
"Its the first café I have owned and it is nice to see lots of old customers and some nice new faces as well.
The unit needed a full renovation and resulted in the café taking longer to open than Mr Newton had expected.
With over 15 years of experience within the bakery industry, Mr Newton still serves cookies, but the café now allows customers to have lunch, with sandwiches, toasties and jacket potatoes now available.
Mr Newton continued: "It has taken a while to open as we had to do a full renovation, however now there are a lot of nice sofa areas, and now that we are up and running, its great.
"We make sandwiches and toasties now, we make all of the products ourselves by hand, we make, bake and sell everything out of this shop as fresh as they can be.
"So far it has been really lovely and business has been great, its more of a friendly coffee shop than a restaurant.
"There is a really relaxed calming atmosphere in here, where people have coffee with friends and come to relax and talk about how their day has been.
Having just opened the bakery café less than three weeks ago, Mr Newton doesn't have any plans to expand further at the moment but acknowledged that it was not off the table in the future.
