AN Evesham postman is rolling back the years to tackle the London Marathon for the seventh time this weekend.

Duncan Day, 56, who says he has not run properly for around 17 years, will raise money for charity Health Poverty Action at the famous event on Sunday.

“I have reignited my love of running and set about the daunting task of raising the £2,000 target,” said Duncan who covers Evesham and the surrounding villages in his job.

“I will be running the London Marathon for my seventh time.

“I haven’t run for about 17 years but decided that I wanted to try and run the London Marathon one more time.

“I was unsuccessful in the ballot so decided to go down the charity route.

“Unfortunately, I hadn’t heard back from my chosen charity but the opportunity arose to go on the reserve list for Health Poverty Action through CSSC Sports and Leisure.

“A week or so later I received an email saying that I had secured a place.

“On the running front I have done a couple of 10k races and gone out three or four times a week in all weathers and hope to continue doing so after the marathon.

“As for the fundraising, I have had several donations, including a generous donation from Sam Boulter and everyone at Honeybourne Railway Club, and done a few football cards at Royal Mail, Evesham, where I will also hopefully be doing a sweepstake based on my finish time.”

Health Poverty Action is dedicated to tackling the root causes of poverty and improving the health and well-being of the world’s most marginalised communities.

It has been instrumental in bringing about positive change in some of the most challenging environments.

Duncan added: “I would like to thank everybody that has supported me and donated so far but I am still a little way off my target.”
