THREE homes have been wrecked after a fire broke out in a village near Evesham.

Residents were awoken to the sound of fire trucks tackling a large house fire throughout the night in Badsey.

The blaze wrecked three homes and on The Lankets, Badsey.

No-one was injured as residents of all three properties were not home at the time - apart from a cat.

Firefighters were alerted by a neighbour from across the street at around 8pm and were still tackling the fire at 1am.

Neighbour, Russell Marks said: "At 1am they were trying to get in through the door and it took them a long time.

"I'm not sure what that door was made of, but two firemen tried using a ram to get it down, before they had to saw it open."

Another neighbour, Mrs Jones said: "The whole community came together and it was amazing.

"Neighbours took people in and gave them tea, coffee and a sofa."

One Hereford and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service crew along with West Mercia police were still at the properties this morning and into the afternoon, carrying out a "reinspection".

West Mercia Police have since closed The Lankets over safety concerns that what remains of the roof could collapse into the road.

Neighbours were unable to move  their cars as the road was closed , until a 30 minute window around midday.

"They had to smash the roof in to get at the fire.

"I've been up for most of the night and there were loads of people taking photos all throughout."

Fire crews from three different counties attended the incident.

Four crews from Hereford and Worcester, one from Gloucestershire and one from Warwickshire.
