Roadworks are set to get underway in the Broad Street area of Pershore in the New Year.

Wales & West Utilities is starting the project to upgrade gas pipes, a necessary step to ensure the safe supply of gas for local homes and businesses.

The work, beginning on January 8 and concluding by February 16, is part of future-proofing the gas network, preparing it for the transport of hydrogen and biomethane.

The gas emergency and pipeline service has coordinated with Worcestershire County Council to plan roadworks.

Traffic management measures are set to be implemented, which will bring disruption for local motorists.

Measures include a lane closure and traffic lights on Broad Street, alternating traffic lights on Defford Road / Church Walk and Bridge Street / High Street, and a parking suspension on Church Walk.

Wales & West Utilities' Mick Gallavin said: "While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the Worcestershire area."

He acknowledged that such works are disruptive, noting however, they are "essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future."
