A CONCERNED man has torn down hundreds of ugly stickers and posters after he decided they were blighting Evesham.
Richard Huish, who sent in these photos, says the recent surge in fly posting has marred the charm of Evesham High Street but he has done his bit, taking down 'hundreds' of them.
He spent two to three hours on one day last month removing as many as he could but he is concerned more will simply go up in their place.
Some of the stickers on marble and smoother stone are particularly difficult to remove while some strip away the paint when they are peeled off, he said.
The 37-year-old began noticing the problem last month and decided to do something about it himself, estimating there were at one stage over 1,000 of them.
He said: "The unsightly stickers have appeared on almost every building, shop, and business, adorning facades, downpipes, and doors.
"My efforts to alleviate the issue this afternoon proved to be a daunting task, and I personally removed over a hundred of these stickers.
"Despite these efforts, there remains a significant number of stickers defacing our town, including prominent locations such as the Lloyds Bank sandstone walls and the newly painted sides of Lawrance's Bakery.
When speaking with local businesses, it appears this deluge of fly posting might have occurred one night, during the early hours.
"It's crucial to note that fly posting is a criminal offence, and this matter has been promptly reported to Wychavon District Council. They have since forwarded it to the Community Environmental Protection Officers for further action."
Rob Rich, community safety and enforcement manager for Wychavon District Council, said: “We can confirm we have received a report about fly-posting in Evesham Town Centre and we are investigating.
"Anyone found to be responsible for fly-posting will face enforcement action or potentially be prosecuted. If you put up any post, sign, placard, notice, leaflet, banner or similar without consent of the property or landowner then you may be guilty of fly-posting. Even if you have permission, you may still need planning consent so please check first. You can report fly-posting at www.wychavon.gov.uk/report-it.”
