A NEW councillor has been elected following a by-election in Evesham.
Cllr Peter Griffiths, a Conservative Worcestershire county councillor, was elected in the Evesham Town Council Greater Hampton Ward.
The by-election in the Greater Hampton Ward was caused by the resignation of Heather Kelleher (Lab).
No other nominations were given for the ward, which led to the electoral services manager declaring the result for Cllr Griffiths as it was uncontested.
Nominations for candidates were called for by the closing time of 4.30pm on October 6.
Cllr Griffiths has previously served on Wychavon District Council for four years prior to winning his seat on the county council.
In his county councillor role, he sits on five panels which include the audit and governance committee, corporate and communities overview and scrutiny panel, environment overview and scrutiny panel, health overview and scrutiny committee and the planning and regulatory committee.
Over the years, he has directed funding for three additional defibrillators, has placed benches in the high street and has helped allow cafes and eateries to be established outside, on pavement, dining.
