MYSTERY surrounds the arrest of a councillor following an ‘incident’ at a meeting of a town council.
Emma Nishigaki was arrested on suspicion of a Section 4 Public Order offence and Harassment following the alleged incident at Evesham Town Hall.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "A 54-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of Section 4 Public Order offence and Harassment.
"The arrest relates to an incident on 11 September at Evesham town hall."
Police have not released any further update on the investigation.
The alleged incident happened at a meeting of the full Evesham Town Council.
However, the arrest took place a few days later at Cllr Nishigaki’s home address.
Minutes of the meeting have not yet been published.
This week Evesham Town Council said it would not comment on the arrest for fear of prejudicing the police investigation.
We have contacted a number of councillors who were present at the meeting, but no one has commented further on the alleged incident.
Following the arrest, Cllr Nishigaki said: "I can confirm that I was arrested and released without charge.
"It is part of a bigger campaign of harassment and bullying against me, which is now also under police investigation.
"I was elected overwhelmingly by the public. I will still be resilient and dedicated to residents on my Avon Ward and help improve life in the town."
