A MAN who died after crashing a motorcycle on a major county road was 48 years old.
Motorists were advised to avoid the A46 near the Twyford Island in Evesham and expect delays following a fatal crash just after 6pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, August 30).
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that a motorcyclist died after crashing into a lamppost.
West Mercia Police said the bike was travelling southbound from the direction of Salford Priors.
A spokesperson said: "At around 5.50pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, August 30) we received reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a Honda motorcycle on the A46 Evesham bypass.
"The bike was travelling southbound from the direction of Salford Priors towards the Twyford roundabout when at one point the vehicle left the road and collided with a lamppost.
"The rider of the motorcycle, a 48-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."
The road was closed at the roundabout while emergency services attended and reopened in the early hours of the morning today (Thursday, August 31).

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find one patient, a man, who was in a critical condition.
“Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service also had a crew from Evesham Fire Station crew in attendance at the A46 crash to assist the ambulance service and police.
