THERE were celebrations at colleges and sixth forms across Pershore and Evesham as students collected their A Level results.
Hundreds of thousands of students across the country received their A-level results on Thursday, August 17, in a year when ministers and the exams regulator in England aimed to return to pre-pandemic grading.
However, Worcestershire was below the national average of students passing their A-levels this year as grade boundaries moved up after the pandemic.
Across the county, there were 7,265 grades awarded at grade C and above (73.8 per cent), which was lower than the average across England at 75.3 per cent.
Despite the fall in stats across the county, schools were positive and were keen to highlight the achievements of their students.
Prince Henry's High School said they were delighted with their year group's achievements.
Head of sixth form, Mrs Webb, said “This has been a fantastic year group who have made a wonderful contribution to the life of the school, and it is lovely to see them now celebrating such good results.
"It has been a pleasure working with them over the last two years, and I wish them every success in the next stage of their lives.”
Evesham New College and Pershore College students were also pictured celebrating their outstanding BTEC results.
Edward Jones-Dee, aged 17, was awarded a D star, D, D in his Art and Design Practice course and now has dreams of working in Japan.
Pershore High School has congratulated its sixth-form students.
Phil Hanson, executive headteacher, said: "They should all be congratulated on their great achievement, and we are delighted that they will be moving on to places at university, in Higher Level Apprenticeships and the workplace.
"These students have had significant disruption to their education caused by the pandemic and did not have the experience of GCSE exams to help them prepare for the demands of A Levels; despite this, they have achieved really good results, and we are very proud of them all."
The De Montfort School (TDMS) was also overjoyed with their student's results.
Headteacher Ruth Allen added, “Our students have persevered and refused to let even a global pandemic stand in their way to success.
"We are extremely proud of all our Year 13 students.
"It is always great to see so many students able to pursue their chosen route into higher education or employment.
"Alongside the students, I would like to thank the staff for their commitment and hard work and the parents/carers for their unwavering support.
"Achievements like this are always a team effort."
