A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a second fatal crash within hours at the same spot.

The biker crashed into a telegraph pole causing the rider to suffer fatal injuries. He died at the scene.

The crash happened at around 5.30am this morning (Friday, August 11) on the A44 at Pitchers Hill near Wickhamford.

Due to a marked police vehicle being in the area at the time of the second crash, the second incident is being referred by the Professional Standards Department to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Hours before, officers were called to a crash also on the A44 at Pitchers Hill near Wickhamford. That crash happed at 8.30pm (Thursday 10 August) and involved multiple vehicles.

A 40-year-old man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Superintendent Rebecca Love, local policing commander for South Worcestershire said: “I can confirm that both of these very tragic collisions are being investigated by the force’s specialist dedicated serious collision investigators.

"It is incredibly sad that two people have lost their lives and our thoughts are with those who have been affected and those injured.”

The A44 remains closed in both directions at Pitchers Hill, next to the Cats Protection League, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

West Mercia Police is appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage in relation to either collision to be sent to the officer in the case PC Paul Pickering of the Serious Collision  Investigation Unit.
