POLICE say a man suffered serious injuries after being assaulted at the scene of a crash.

Officers were called to a crash where on the A44 at Pitchers Hill near Wickhamford at 8.30pm last night (Thursday 10 August) involving multiple vehicles on the A44.

A 40-year-old man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

It has now also been revealed that a 47-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was assaulted after the collision.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and driving under the influence of drugs. He is in police custody.

Two men were also taken to hospital with serious injuries and a woman was taken to hospital with less serious injuries.

Emergency services were called at 8.29pm and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended. 

A West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) spokesperson said: “On arrival, we found three cars had been involved in a collision.

“The driver of the first car, a man, had been removed from the vehicle with the help of fire colleagues and was receiving basic life support.

“Ambulance crews immediately took over and began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The passenger from the same car, also a man, was treated by medics for serious injuries after being removed from the vehicle by fire colleagues. He was then conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital via land for further treatment.

“The driver of the second car, a man, had self-extricated when ambulance crews arrived.

“He was treated for potentially serious injuries at the scene before being taken by land ambulance to the same hospital for further treatment.

“The female driver of the third car was assessed by ambulance staff and treated for injuries not believed to be serious before also being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital via land for further treatment.”

WMAS sent three ambulances, a paramedic officer, a Mental Health Car with Specialist Paramedics onboard and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Strensham to the scene. 

The police have said there was a second crash not far from the scene this morning.
