ONE of the largest World War Two re-enactment events in the country is expected to bring history to life this weekend including a Battle of Britain memorial flypast.
The Wartime in the Vale event takes place at Ashdown Farm, Badsey, near Evesham on Saturday and Sunday and is expected to involve 500 plus military vehicles.
In total, including 2,000 reenactors, the event is expected to bring in crowds of 15,000 people over the course of the weekend. New this year is the first National WW2 American Motorcycle Meet. Hurricanes will also be involved in a flypast, creating some head-turning moments for visitors.
Highlights include military and civilian re-enactors and dioramas, 1940s entertainment (Big Band Dance Saturday Night), a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast, arena events, battle and pyrotechnics displays, a Children’s Fair, food and a bar, militaria stalls, vintage and collectables stalls, a noon day gun, Post War Vehicles and tanks.
Gates open between 10am and 5pm with day tickets costing £15 for adults, £5 for children (5-14) and a family ticket for £35 (two adults and two children).
Concessions are £10 (veterans, pensioners and members of the Armed Forces).
Public Camping is available on Friday and Saturday night, including a Saturday night dance.
Organisers said on their official website: "Please come and join us and soak up the wonderful 40's atmosphere. It's a great family show with a mix of military and vintage civilian displays at our WWII camp."
Visitors are welcome to don period dress for the event.
