The town has been transformed with the return of the Medieval Market.

Reenactors and historic market stalls have filled Evesham, bringing in hundreds of visitors.

Among them is councillor Richard Morris, who said: “The event was terrific, so much on display and a great turnout in the sun to enjoy.

“Was really interesting to learn about medieval history and I look forward to the Battle of Evesham in August.”

Day one of the market wasn’t without its drama, with one of the reenactors sustaining a real injury in the arena.

Organisers have said he suffered a fracture to his elbow but will be back on Sunday, with a plaster cast.

“If you see him, say hello as he will now have to watch his friends in combat and not take part,” said a spokesperson for the event.

“Looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday for a full on day of medieval mayhem, browsing artisan stalls, seeing the new Evesham tapestry, inspired by the Bayeux tapestry and visiting the community stalls in the twin medieval churches.

“All free to enter and fun for all the family - who doesn't like a Knight in armour, Viking or meeting Robin Hood?”

Evesham Medieval Market continues today (May 21) and is on until 5pm.
