THE FINAL preparations are underway ahead of Evesham’s Medieval Market.
Hundreds of reenactors and market stalls will fill the town this weekend.
It comes as part of the Battle of Evesham festivities, with the main event taking place later this summer.
Event director Mick Hurst cannot wait to get going.
He said: “This weekend of medieval mayhem and the other events, such as the battle in August, take all year to organise by a small group of dedicated Evesham residents.
“We expect many thousands of visitors from all of the UK and beyond to come to the historic heart of Evesham to spend a full day or two, boosting trade in the town and showcasing Evesham’s most valuable assets – history, heritage and our parks.
"The forecast is looking great for this weekend, so we could break the record for the number of visitors to an event held in Evesham town centre – let’s hope they all enjoy themselves, spend some money and maybe even have a go at axe throwing.”

Mr Hurst added: “We surveyed the town centre business after last year and found many had record takings and from the 97 returned surveys – the event scored 4.8 out of 5 stars for value-added to the town, showing how we are enhancing trade and raising the profile of Evesham’s history and heritage.”
Robin Hood and his Merry Men with Maid Marion and The Sherriff of Nottingham will be joined at the market by 140 knights, soldiers and living history performers.
The final preparations are now taking place at Abbey Park, with medieval minstrels, dancers and entertainers also set to join in the fun.

There will also be a Battle Arena, where different groups will showcase fighting skills from each century of the high medieval period (1066-1485).
Meanwhile, over 100 trade stalls will occupy Market Square and the grounds of All Saints Church and St Lawrence’s Church, selling everything from medieval swords to Viking beard oil.
The Medieval Market and High-Medieval Living History Camp is free to enter and opens from 10am on both Saturday and Sunday (May 20 and 21).
Run entirely by volunteers, all funds raised will go towards the main Battle of Evesham Festival in August.
