A POPULAR running event, not held since the pandemic, is set for a welcome return this month.
Bredon Cricket Club Tower Run is a challenging 10k trail following country lanes, tracks and paths to the 299m summit of Bredon Hill, near Evesham.
The event was first held in 2017 and grew in popularity every year until 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic forced its cancellation.
Now it hopes to make a triumphant return, welcoming both fun runners and serious competitors from across the region.
Neil Hall, chairman of Bredon Cricket Club, which is just outside Bredon village, near Pershore, is one of the event organisers.
He said: “We were delighted to see the run grow in popularity every year until we had to cancel in 2020 because of the pandemic.
“Now that things have returned to normal we are delighted to revive it and are again looking forward to welcoming runners from as far afield as Birmingham, Gloucester, Malvern and the Cotswolds.”
The run, which raises funds for the cricket club, starts and finishes at the club on Sunday, May 28.
Its highlight is when runners reach the summit of Bredon Hill – marked by an Iron Age fort and 18th-century Parson’s Folly tower – with its glorious views of the surrounding countryside.
Entry costs £15. People can register in advance and pay online at entrycentral.com/bredon-cricket-club-tower-run.
The run, which starts at 10am, is fully marshalled and open to a maximum of 200 people.
