A DERELICT building caught on fire in Evesham.

Firefighters spent hours battling a large blaze on Waterside over the weekend.

It is understood that people were inside the building at the time.

All have now been accounted for.

Three Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews attended the scene, one each from Evesham, Pebworth and Worcester fire stations.

They were joined there by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Alcester and Stratford and the aerial ladder platform from Worcester.

The crews arrived at around 1.41pm on Saturday, April 15.

Upon arrival, they found a blaze at a derelict building measuring 10 metres by 15 metres.

A HWFRS spokesperson said the incident was sectorised with the fire fought by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using four hosereel jets and one main jet.

A thermal imaging camera and a light portable pump were also used, while the aerial ladder platform was used to remove tiles and dampen down hot spots.

A re-inspection was carried out at 10.30pm before the incident was marked as closed at 10.59pm.

West Mercia Police were also at the scene, with a road closure put in place.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At just before 2pm on Saturday April 15 police received a call from Hereford and Worcestershire Fire Service for police attendance at a fire in waterside in Evesham to assist them with traffic management.

"Police remained on scene until 5.25pm."
