A PLAN to build up to 38 new homes on the outskirts of Evesham has been put forward.
Housing developer Newland Homes has revealed the plans to build the ‘carbon zero’ homes on land off The Parks in Aldington, near Evesham.
The homes would be built on fields – classed as ‘open countryside’ – next to the busy A46 bypass and railway line and would be surrounded by the recently built Redrow homes.
A plan to build 55 homes on the land was backed by Wychavon District Council in 2015 but when the application went to the next planning stage in 2017 for a decision on the layout and the design of the homes, it was turned down for not providing enough green space.
An appeal was then made to the government’s planning inspectors in a bid to get the decision overturned but it was dismissed.
A statement included with the application said: “The fact that the site is located adjacent to an allocated [housing] site and benefits from a previous consent for up to 55 dwellings is a strong indication of in principle support for development in this location.
“Whilst it is accepted that the situation has evolved since the previous permission was granted, the scheme reflects these changes and incorporates established and emerging policy requirements.”
A number of objections have been made against the plan by neighbours saying there were already issues with speeding cars and the potential for crashes around Aldington would be made worse by the new homes.
One objector, Ben Rean of Lodge Park Drive, said the roads around the homes were already struggling to cope and allowing more cars into the area would lead to more accidents.
“That access road is not fit for purpose with the current usage let alone having another 60-plus vehicles using it,” he said.
“The speed of traffic around family housing is dangerous. We have already had significant accidents including a motorcycle. The [lane] is not big enough to support this amount of new traffic.
“This all needs resolving before new housing is put in place or at least a responsibility of the new developer.
