AN elderly woman has been left scared to go outside after her house was shot at while she was watching television.

Doreen Brewer was in the living room at her home in Charlton, between Evesham and Pershore, when her patio door window suddenly shattered.

Her daughter Hayley West said they do not know exactly what caused the window to smash but explained a small silver ball was found lodged firmly in the pane.

“She worried that maybe someone is targeting her but I can’t imagine that would be the case,” said Mrs West.

“It is a bit worrying and intimidating for older people having that happen to them.

“We had to talk her into going out as she wouldn’t come out of her home at first.”

Mrs Brewer, who turns 81 later this month, has lived alone at her property on Canada Bank since her husband passed away over a decade ago.

The window shattered at around 7.50 pm on Sunday (March 5).

She first thought it was a problem with the boiler or heating before deciding to check outside.

The incident has been reported to West Mercia Police but Mrs West says there has been little communication since.

She feels her mother would have felt more at ease had an officer visited.

Mrs West said: “I know resources are quite stretched but even if a community officer went down to check who was around or a car could drive through the village, just to give some sort of presence in the area, it would have been good.

“She would have felt much more reassured if someone called her from the police.”

She added: “There are quite a lot of older people live in Charlton, and a few families too.

“It’s a nice village with a good community feel about it.

“Whoever is responsible will just carry on doing it if nothing is done.”

A West Mercia Police spokesperson confirmed they have received a report of the incident and officers have arranged to visit Mrs West and Mrs Brewer on Tuesday afternoon, March 7.
