The council has moved to quash concerns about overflowing dog poo bins.

Sharon Casswell, head of client services at Wychavon District Council, remains confident in their waste collection services.

This comes after an Evesham resident, Tim Crowley, captured photos of overflowing dog bins on Thistledown.

"I have lived here for 22 years and have seen a huge increase in dog ownership and therefore dog waste," said Mr Crowley.

He added that if Friday collections are missed, the dog waste bins are overflowing by Monday morning.

Mrs Casswell explained the council looks after more than 500 such bins and receives roughly one complaint per 2,316 collections.

She said: “We look after more than 540 dog poo bins across Wychavon and these are emptied either once or twice a week depending on their location and how regularly they are used.

“Of the 46,332 empties we carry out of these bins every year, we receive on average about 20 complaints a year about overfilled dog poo bins, so our contractor FCC Environment is providing a reliable and high-quality service. In this case we aren’t aware of any regular complaints or issues about the bin not being emptied.

“There are various reasons bins overfill including high usage between collections, particularly in warmer weather and sometimes people leave bagged dog waste on top of bins which gives the impression they are full.

“On some occasions factors such as staff absence or vehicle breakdown may mean a bin cannot be emptied according to schedule.”

Any residents who do see a bin overflowing are asked to report it to Wychavon District Council using the form at www.wychavon.gov.uk/report-it.

The council will then arrange to have it emptied as soon as possible.

Residents are also reminded that bagged dog poo can be put in any litter bin, it doesn’t have to be a dog poo bin.

“So, if you come across one that is full, as well as letting us know, please don’t add to the pile but wait until you find another bin or take it home with you and dispose of it there,” added Miss Casswell.

“The fact our dog poo bins are so well used is a positive sign and I thank residents for helping us to keep Wychavon clean and tidy.”
