A mother has called for more police on the streets after her son was threatened with a knife.

Alex Niesiel, 13, was held at knifepoint while looking after a friend’s motorbike by Cherry Orchard Care Home in Pershore.

His mum, Aleksandra Sliwakowska, thinks the incident on Monday, February 20, could have been avoided if there was a greater police presence in the town at night.

“I suppose it is a quiet place and easy to target with not much police,” she said.

“We definitely need more police, there’s not enough.

“I think they are trying but there’s not enough police.”

On Friday, February 25, Pershore SNT carried out patrols of anti-social behaviour hotspots in Pershore, including Cherry Orchard.

Officers also visited Orchard Road, High Street and Abbey Park.

Inspector Dave Wise, of the Safer Neighbourhood team for Wychavon and Malvern, explained they are “working hard” to address the concerns of residents like Aleksandra.

He said: “Our Safer Neighbourhood teams carry out regular patrols in Pershore and are always keen to engage with the local community.

“We’re aware of ongoing concerns around crime and anti-social behaviour in the area and are working hard to address these.

“We’ve increased high-visibility patrols in areas of concern and are also working closely with young people, both directly and through partners such as the local authority and schools, to educate them on the consequences of taking part in anti-social behaviour.”

Alex, a year nine pupil at Pershore High School, and a girl had been looking after a 16-year-old friend’s bike while he went to the shop at around 7.30pm on Monday, February 20.

Two men then approached and asked Alex for the keys to the bike, but he didn’t have them.

Aleksandra added: “They told him to sit down on a bench and then they sat down either side of him and pulled out a knife.

“He was crying, saying ‘please don’t stab me’.

“He was really, really, stressed.”

Just half an hour earlier, a 17-year-old was robbed of his air pods while travelling on a train between Honeybourne and Pershore.
