A new support centre for people with life-limiting illnesses has opened in Evesham.
Campden Home Nursing is launching an outreach centre at Riverside Shopping Centre, which will offer free support to people suffering from life-limiting illnesses, as well as their carers and bereaved families.
The charity, based at Jecca's House in Chipping Campden, already cares for patients in and around Evesham and this new centre will help them reach out to even more people in the community in need of their services.
Helen Makaritis, chief executive officer at Campden Home Nursing, said: “Our long-term strategy has always been to reach out to the wider community so that more people hear about all the services at Jecca’s House.
“So, when we saw an opportunity to open an Outreach Centre in the middle of Evesham, we jumped at the chance.
“We hope that by having a presence in Evesham, we can replicate a mini Jecca’s - a place where people can come for support and information and where the kettle is always on.”
Jecca’s House is home to a large drop-in kitchen for casual meetings, a resource room with relevant literature and information, and an activity room with arts and crafts.
There is also a lounge for people to relax, a newly-built “therapeutic counselling space” overlooking a garden, and a ‘Men in Sheds’ facility – offering people the chance to keep busy and meet others facing similar situations.
Campden Home Nursing charity also offers at-home hospice care for people who would like to spend the last weeks of their life at home, in familiar surroundings.
Bereavement services are also available, including counselling, support groups and play therapy for children aged 4-11, all of which are free of charge.
The new outreach centre will open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
A specialist nurse and the centre support manager will be on hand to provide advice, information and comfort to those in need.
