Work on The Valley’s Aztec minigolf and high-rope course begins

The Valley shopping centre will soon be home to an 18-hole Aztec adventure golf course, sat underneath a high-rope course complete with zip wire.

Wychavon District Council planners backed the plan earlier this year and this week, work finally began on the project.

Leisure attraction specialists Greenspan Projects Limited moved in with diggers and are expected to complete the build by the end of this year, with a launch planned for early 2023.

The facility will be run by Worcester-based leisure operator Aztec Adventure.

The company’s director Mark Spence said: “We are passionate about all things outdoors and bringing people together to enjoy the fresh air and physical exercise.

“The project is truly unique, and we think that the experience, with the high ropes directly above the golf, will be awesome, we can’t wait to get started”.

Aztec Adventure were responsible for Evesham Leisure Centre’s new climbing facility and run similar ventures in Upton Warren and Lower Moor.

 Each year The Valley welcomes more than 1.3 million visitors, with the bulk of these coming from outside the local area.

Around 1.1 million people travel from areas such as South Birmingham, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

Tom Carver, chair of the newly established group, Evesham Place Board, believes this project will further boost these figures.

He said: “We welcome this significant investment into the local community from The Valley and Aztec Adventure.

“The project will not only provide new jobs but will increase inbound visitors from outside Evesham and Wychavon, which will benefit the town and the community as a whole”.

Council planners approved the plan back in April.

A report outlining the council’s approval said: “The proposal comprises tourist development which is compatible with the retail, and forthcoming holiday lodge, offer within the wider park and the wider vision for the park.

“The proposal would also result in some job creation and may encourage visits to the park and associated spend by visitors.

“The site is served by ample parking in conjunction with the existing leisure and retail offer and is also accessible by public transport means. It is not considered that additional car parking would be required to accommodate the proposal.”
