AN Evesham company looking to expand and create jobs has shared an update into its £3.5million work.
Earlier this year, we reported on fruit and veg supplier Nationwide Produce's plans to expand its headquarters in Enterprise Way, which the company said would create new jobs in the town.
Now, the company has shared photos in a progress update, showing how things are progressing.
Along with photos of the new unit being built, they said: "It's about time we updated you all on our £3.5 million extension
"We now have a concrete floor, a few walls and solar panels on the roof.
"You can also see the new super green refrigeration system beginning to be installed."
The expansion will see five new temperature-controlled units built, allowing the site to grow from 14,000 sq ft to more than 38,000 sq ft.
The company, which employs 93 people, said at the time the move would create more jobs and expand capacity or stock almost fourfold, from 450 pallets to 1,600.
Managing director Scott Hollins said: "We are doing as much as we can to be renewable and sustainable.
"And our Nationwide Evesham extension represents a huge leap forward on this journey.
"The scale of the refrigeration system overhaul is impressive.
"The project in its entirety is the largest known food installation of its kind in Europe."
Nationwide started as a small office-based company in 2007, later buying a depot at Vale Park in Evesham.
The increased business demand let to Nationwide buying an additional site in September 2019 – formerly a Kanes Foods depot – a short distance down the road.
It now has subsidiaries including Vitaal in the Netherlands, Nationwide Produce España in Spain and Richmond Farms, which operates in Lancashire and East Anglia.
Fruit and veg comes into Evesham from around the world and is then distributed by Nationwide Produce from its site in the town.
100 per cent of the energy used at the Evesham site is from renewable sources, with the company being officially certified renewable.
