AN Evesham florist is going for gold as she takes part in the world finals of her trade.
Hannah Beckley, from the town, is taking part in the WorldSkills Floristry Final from October 20-23.
Being held in Helsinki, the final will pit her against florists from around the world as part of a 35-strong UK team.
The final represents a major milestone for Hannah, who has overcome dyslexia after years of speech therapy.
Her journey in floristry started when she took on a week's work experience, falling in love with the trade and launching her career.
Hannah said: "My experiences so far have given me a massive confidence and career boost.
"I have gone from working part-time in a local florist to branching out as a freelancer and working big events and weddings.
"I want to inspire young florists and help them develop their skills and one day have my own business.
"I've never been to Finland before but can’t wait to get out there and hopefully do the UK proud."
Hannah found out about the WorldSkills UK competitions through her tutor at Moreton Morrell College and competed at the national finals in 2019 where her performance was good enough to secure a place in Team UK.
The Helsinki event will feature 61 finals with over 1,000 competitors in 15 countries.
The finals usually take place in one city as part of a 10-day carnival of competition. However, this year’s event scheduled in Shanghai was cancelled due to the pandemic.
The UK will be looking to improve on a 12th place finish at the 2019 international event in Kazan, Russia and climb back in to the medal table top 10.
WorldSkills UK Deputy CEO Ben Blackledge said: "After the delays and difficulties of the past couple of years, we should all be proud of the skill and determination these young professionals have shown to get out there and fly the flag for the UK.
"They represent the very best in their field, but will have to be at the top of their game competing against the best the rest of the world has to offer."
