National Highways is looking to tackle safety concerns raised over the A46.

MP for West Worcestershire Harriett Baldwin is looking to speak with the organisation’s chief executive in an effort to speed up plans to improve the road.

The stretch of A46 from Evesham to Ashchurch has been the site of numerous serious and fatal crashes over recent years and earlier this year, Mrs Baldwin began campaigning to introduce safety measures.

Fiona McKenzie, National Highways route manager, has said they are looking at improving the road.

“We take safety extremely seriously and fully respect and appreciate the concerns raised,” she said.

“We’re currently in the process of designing some vehicle-activated signage which will be installed at Hinton Cross to improve awareness of drivers turning onto the A46.”

National Highways has also stated that discussions with police regarding a potential change to the speed limit are at an “early stage”.

Furthermore, work has already been carried out at the location, including the installation of new signposts and reflective bollards to “demarcate” bends.

Mrs Baldwin first met with local communities nine months ago but says that since then there has been little progress.

She said: “The time taken to deliver the short-term solution is extremely worrying and I dread to think how long the permanent solutions could take.

“This delay is putting people’s lives at risk and I hope that someone in National Highways will unblock the process and get something done.”
