A MAN charged in connection with a stabbing in Evesham has had his case adjourned until later this year.

Andrew Nicklin was charged last month after the incident, which saw a 17 year-old boy stabbed near Swan Lane in Evesham.

He was charged with affray, possession of a bladed article in a public place and of wounding with intent, and appeared before Judge James Burbidge QC at Worcester Crown Court on September 5 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Appearing via video-link from HMP Hewell, Nicklin said he was not in a position to enter a plea.

He also confirmed to Judge Burbidge that he was appearing unrepresented on the day in court.

Judge Burbidge adjourned the case until Monday, December 19, this year and advised Nicklin to speak to a lawyer as soon as he could.

He said: "When you have a lawyer, you need to discuss it with them if you are intending to plead guilty or not.

"You must do so quickly, as judges can give you a discount.

"If you are fighting your case at trial you must turn up. As you are in custody that could mean leaving your cell to come to court."

The incident occurred at around 10.40pm on August 9 when ambulance and police teams were called to the town following reports of a stabbing.

Police told patrons at The Old Swanne Inn to remain indoors while they dealt with the situation.

A spokesperson for JD Wetherspoon, the company that owns the pub, said: "This incident had nothing to do with the pub whatsoever.
