POLICE and fire and rescue crews searched the River Avon in Evesham after reports that somebody had jumped into the water.
West Mercia police say that they were alerted by a member of the public that somebody may have jumped into the river near the A46, Simon De Montford Bridge yesterday evening.
Despite the reports, nobody was found in the area during the search.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We had a single report from a member of the public driving by who thought they had seen somebody jump into the water.
"Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service attended with us where an extensive search was carried out at the scene in slow0moving water.
"Nobody was found in the area."
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service had four crews in attendance who were aiding West Mercia police.
A spokesperson said: "We carried out an extensive search but did not find anyone in the area.
"We were first called at 8.25pm and did not leave the scene until 10.20pm.
"We had crews from Evesham, Worcester, Ledbury and a water rescue team from Redditch in attendance."
