A car's roof had to be cut off after it crashed through a brick wall into a garden.

Further details have emerged following a crash in Elmley Castle this morning.

Two people, an elderly man and a woman in her 80s, had to be taken to hospital after a crash involving two cars and a brick road on Main Street, outside Elmley Castle CofE First School.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has now confirmed that the roof of one of the cars had to be removed in order to free the man, who was in his 90s.

A HWFRS spokesperson said: "Two Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Evesham Fire Station were called at 10:15 on 29 July to an RTC in the Main Street in Elmley Castle.

"A car was in collision with a wall and had passed through into a garden.

"A female casualty was out of the car and was given over to the care of the ambulance service.

"The roof of the car had to be removed to extricate an elderly male casualty and he was handed over to the care of the air ambulance.

"Police also attended.

"The vehicle was made safe and the incident was marked as pending closure at 11:51."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed that both people were taken to Queen Elizabeth with "potentially serious injuries".

The WMAS spokesperson added: "We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham.

"We have treated two patients, a man and woman in a potentially serious condition and they’ve been conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.”

Meanwhile, West Mercia Police warned motorists in the area to expect delays of "at least" an hour following the crash.
