A crash that left a teenager with “potentially serious injuries” has prompted a local MP to demand action once more.
The 19-year-old motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a VW Golf on the A46 Evesham Bypass shortly before 7pm yesterday.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital in Birmingham while police say it is not known whether the driver of the Golf, an 18-year-old man, had suffered any injuries.
Now, MP for West Worcestershire Harriett Baldwin has had enough.
She said: “I was saddened to learn of yet another incident on the A46 and I repeat my calls on National Highways that it must do all it can to expedite measures to reduce speed and increase safety for road users.
“I’ve seen some initial plans in place for vehicle activated warning signs and I urge National Highways and Worcestershire County Council to do all they can to get them installed quickly.
“I have a meeting with the council this week, where the A46 will be one of the topics I plan to cover, but my message is simple. It’s time to act.”
Mrs Baldwin has previously met with local councillors and pupils at Sedgerberrow First School to discuss the issue.
She also wrote a letter, along with fellow MPs Nigel Huddleston and Laurence Robertson, addressing National Highways chief executive, Nick Harris.
The government agency says it is working to figure out what has caused the incidents.
National Highways programme development manager, Ian Doust, said: “We take safety extremely seriously and we work closely with the police to understand the causes of incidents.
“We always monitor the safety of our roads to assess any necessary steps which can make it safer for motorists.”
In March, National Highways agreed to investigate the installation of a ‘vehicle activated sign’ to warn oncoming drivers about dangerous road junctions around Hinton on the Green and Sedgeberrow, just a short drive south of the most recent crash.
However, Mrs Baldwin said that action must come sooner rather than later.
She said at the time: “What we now need to do is speed up the work to get a solution in place as soon as possible.
“This is a dangerous road and there have been a series of serious accidents recently.”
