STAFF at an estate agent have been taking part in a gruelling relay challenge to help pay for a holiday of a lifetime for a young boy being treated for cancer.

Nine-year-old Josh Asbury was diagnosed with T-lymphoblastic leukaemia/lymphoma in November last year only a few weeks after recovering from Covid.

So far the brave Evesham youngster has had CT scans, surgery on a collapsed lung, numerous biopsies, X-rays, blood tests and ultrasounds and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

To raise money a team from Sheldon Bosley Knight began on Friday (April 1) with a run from its Kenilworth office to the Leamington branch before handing over the baton to the next group, which cycled to Stratford.

From there, there was a walk to the Kineton office before the next leg which was a run to Shipston.

From Shipston the team cycled seven miles to Chipping Campden before handing over to the next one which walked through the night to get to Winchcombe.

The penultimate leg saw a cycle ride to Pershore in the early hours of Saturday morning.

And the fundraiser finished with a walk between the Pershore and Evesham offices, that arrived in Evesham at 11am on Saturday.

Around 30 members of staff from across the firm's 11 offices volunteered to take part in the relay.

Speaking ahead of the event organiser Christian Cloke said: “Josh and his parents are well known to a number of us in the office and so when we heard what they were going through we knew we wanted to do something to help.

“They are all being so brave but it’s the worst nightmare of any parent, seeing your child so poorly and feeling powerless to help.

“We decided to involve the whole company in this fundraising event so we could raise as much money as possible.

“The target is £2,500 and we are determined to reach it so the family can go on a much-needed holiday when Josh has recovered, and put a smile on their faces again.

“The local community has also been so supportive of the family, with lots of other fundraising initiatives taking place. It’s been great to see the whole community pulling together.”
