A county MP has called for an accelerated response to increasing safety on the A46.
The stretch of road from Evesham to Tewkesbury has been the site of numerous serious and fatal crashes in recent months.
Now, West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin is calling for action to reduce the risk of dangerous accidents to speed up.
She said: “People are being killed and seriously injured along the A46 and I have been keen to share the message that a long delay actually doing something to prevent this is not acceptable to anybody.
“What we now need to do is speed up the work to get a solution in place as soon as possible.
"This is a dangerous road and there have been a series of serious accidents recently.”
Most recently, in January, two people were trapped following a collision on the road, one of whom had to be removed by firefighters.
National Highways is responsible for safety along the major road and as such, the government agency has agreed to investigate the installation of a ‘vehicle activated sign’ to warn oncoming drivers about dangerous road junctions around Hinton on the Green and Sedgeberrow.
Meanwhile, Worcestershire County Councillor Elizabeth Eyre and the highways team have agreed that action needs to be carried out.
Similarly, the police and Safer Roads Partnership has been assessing the right approaches to reduce accidents along the A46.
However, the process is expected to be a lengthy one, prompting Mrs Baldwin to demand action now.
Mrs Baldwin added: “I’ve met with local councillors and even visited the local primary school to hear the clear message that we must do something to help drivers be aware of dangerous junctions along the A46.
“I’ve passed the message to the Department for Transport that this is an important issue to my constituents, and I am reassured that both the Department and Worcestershire County Council support this ambition.
